difference between social and cultural norms
What is the difference between cultural
and social norms and how we act in different situations?
In this LA essay I will
go through what is the difference of cultural and social norms (rules) that can
be used in daily life

Social Norms are unwritten
rules about how to behave. They tell us how to behave in a certain place or
at a certain time. Social norms are normally applied globally. Social norms
include dressing in a respectable way, saying please and thank you, being
polite to people and lots of other things like that.
Cultural norms

Cultural
norms are normally local or only used in the group or community. An example of
cultural norms is in America where it is considered rude not to look into the
other person’s eye while talking, while Asians may look elsewhere to show
politeness and respect. Cultural norms are passed down from older generations
and have normally been followed for a longer time than social norms. In
Indonesia it is respectable to take your shoes of at the door while in Britain
you wipe your shoes then go in with them on. Taking of your shoes in Indonesia
started because Muslims pray on the floor so to keep the floor clean. Then it
got adopted by the whole of Indonesia to keep the floors of all the houses clean.
So that is the
difference between cultural and social norms the way they are used and where we
use it. Just remember to follow the norms around you because sometimes they are
totally different than the place you came from. Norms can change from place to
place in one country like one province to another. But remember to follow the
norms of the place because it is considered disrespectful if you don’t follow
them.
